Aquaplast™ Original Overview
Aquaplast™ Original features a polycaprolactone base that helps to provide a balance between material conformability and resistance to stretch. This gives the clinician more control over how much the material stretches during splint fabrication. Unlike Aquaplast-T™, Aquaplast Original has no protective coating and will bond to itself instantly without surface preparation. Clinicians trust Aquaplast as a versatile splinting material for medium to large splints or even detailed splinting.
With 100 percent memory, clinicians can reheat and reshape Aquaplast Original repeatedly. This makes it an ideal choice for static progressive and serial static splints, where the clinician must reform the splint as the patient’s condition changes. It becomes translucent when soft to help the clinician identify landmarks for positioning and pressure points and provide maximum comfort for the patient. Aquaplast is non-toxic, latex-free and radiolucent.
Key Material Benefits
The Aquaplast family is the only Rolyan splinting family that has 100 percent memory. It also is the only family that turns transparent or translucent when heated. These two unique characteristics help the clinician form the perfect-fitting splint with the ability to revise the material when needed. Aquaplast, unlike Aquaplast-T, has no protective coating and will bond to itself instantly without surface preparation.
Handling Characteristics
Resistance to stretch: ModerateControlled stretch and the ability to handle with moderate pressure. It will not stretch out of shape when removed from a splint bath.
Conformability: Moderate/MaximumConforms to surface contours and detail when minimum force is applied. Moderate degree of drape.
Memory: 100 percentWhen reheated, the material “remembers” its original shape and returns to it. Allows for repeated reheating and reshaping for splint revisions.
Bonding: UncoatedBonds permanently by pinching together heated surfaces.
Physical Characteristics

Thickness: AssortedAvailable in the following sheet thicknesses: 1/8" (3.2mm), 1/16" (1.6mm) and 3/32" (2.4mm).
Perforations: AssortedAvailable in 13 percent, 19 percent or solid material.
Appearance: Translucent when heatedIndicates material is soft and ready to form.
Hardened Splint Characteristics
Rigidity: Moderate/Maximum (59.2 kpsi*)Retains shape without reinforcement.*Refers to Young’s Modulus testing value
