DESCRIPTION

  • Developed by John Veale, New Zealand Optometrist, this simple and practical colour screening test is a very effective colour deficiency assessment tool.
  • This colour test is ideal for children, employers, occupational and HR managers, and where English is not the first language. This colour test also highlights the affect of colour defect in the “real world”.
  • As an occupational test, it should be completed in similar light conditions where colour recognition is to take place, i.e. in low light conditions.
  • This test will also help a normal colour sighted person appreciate what a colour deficient person has to cope with.
  • The test should take 7-10 minutes to complete, longer if there is a deficiency.
    • Remove the cap and scatter the coloured wires on a flat white surface.
    • Ask them to sort the wires into respective colour piles of 10 colours i.e. white, grey, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown and black.
  • The results: If the person being tested shows difficulty in sorting the coloured wires into their respective colour piles or creates piles that have mixed colours they should be referred to an eyecare specialist for advanced colour vision tests.
