The Emergency Department has a difficult manual handling task when a car arrives at a hospital with an unconscious person either in the front or rear car seat.
Depending on the patient’s condition and position they can be slid out of the car either head or feet first.
By using the Slide Board Kit, this difficult manual handling task is made easier. If necessary the Straps are fastened around the ankles, thighs and waist of the patient. Then the specially shaped flexible Slide Board is positioned under the patient.
The Carers can then pull the Slide Straps from outside of the car, using their body weight and standing in a good manual handling position. As the Slide Board is very flexible, it will bend up to a trolley or down to the ground.
It has been reported back to us that at one hospital a man was evacuated from a car in under one minute. The following week it took two minutes to evacuate a pregnant lady and get her safely out of the car. It took extra time as they had to be more careful handling two people.
Note: As this is considered an over-sized item, customers from outside of Australia should
contact
us before placing an order so that we can provide an accurate shipping cost.
Safe Working Load (SWL)
Click
here
for information relating to Safe Working Loads and plastic versus wooden slide boards.
Also available in the Pelican Slide Board range:
Slide Board – Aero Transfer
Slide Board –
Stubby
Slide Board – Boomerang
Slide Board – Wheelchair Cut Out
ResQsllide Board & Chair Strap Kit
Emergency Stretcher

Item # 597K
Note: As this is considered an over-sized item, customers from outside of Australia should
contact
us before placing an order so that we can provide an accurate shipping cost.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0723/8801/8488/files/car-emergency-slide-board-kit-cover-image.jpg?v=1747625944
emergency-stretcher
Emergency Stretcher

The Emergency Stretcher can be used in confined conditions or even for carrying people up and down stairs. It can be used by many Carers sharing the weight. The Emergency Stretcher folds up easily to an approximate size of 22cm x 30cm x 6cm for convenient storage.
The Stretcher is made from the same strong nylon that we make our mechanical lifting hoist slings from. The lifting slings have been weight tested to over 300kg / 660lbs. The stretcher is easy to store and take to a Patient as well as being easy to lift and carry a Patient. It can be left under patients during X-Rays, saving unnecessary lifting from the stretcher to the X-Ray table.
Two pockets are provided on both sides to put long poles (not included) in if necessary, though in many instances, the ease of using the webbing handles makes it very convenient for two or more Carers to carry the Patient. We recommend that two Carers should only lift lightweight patients, under 55kg / 121lbs. However, with more Carers holding on either side, far heavier patients can be carried.
The
Emergency Stretcher Bag
(sold separately)
is a durable, clear plastic storage bag with a hanging loop and a sign with brief instructions for use. The Bag is a useful way to store the Emergency Stretcher in an easy-to-access location, so that it is always ready to use in an emergency.
To Use
Fold the Emergency Stretcher roughly into thirds length wise. Check the Patient for spinal injuries. Once permission has been given to move them, roll them onto the folded Emergency Stretcher. Once the Patient is in position, unfold it so that the webbing handles are either side of the Patient. The Carers should bend their knees and hold the webbing handles in both hands.
We suggest the Carers use both hands when lifting, although in some circumstances, the Carers may use only one hand if the other hand is needed to hold on to hand rails. If possible, try to have Carers of the same height carrying the stretcher.
If carrying a Patient up or down stairs, the stretcher can be used to hold the Patient as if sitting in a chair.
View the full range of
Evacuation, Fire & Rescue Equipment
here.

Item # 599 – Emergency Stretcher
Item # 599-BAG – Emergency Stretcher Bag
SWL 300kg

The Flame Retardant Kitchen Apron is designed to be worn by kitchen staff to help prevent burns or spitting fat and flame flare-ups.
The front is made from a flame retardant material made in the USA. The yellow Storage Bag and Pulling Straps have some Hi Vis Tape made to Australian Standard 906.4. Many fires start at night. If the electricity is turned off, Rescuers need to find the ResQmat in poor light. Outside of the building, the bright colours and reflective tape will help the outside Rescuers see the ResQmat coming. This allows them to assist evacuation away from the building.
In any building over two storeys high, if there is a power failure or a fire, the electricity is turned off and the lifts or elevators then cannot be used. It is difficult and probably impossible, for people in wheelchairs or using Zimmer Frames or walking sticks, to walk down stairs. The ResQmat can be used in office buildings, theatres, libraries, hospitals, schools, etc. Even if a wheelchair user does not work in the building, a visitor who does use a wheelchair may be in the building when there is a power failure or fire, and they will not be able to use the stairs to evacuate. When not in use, the ResQmat can hang from a hook or be stored in a cupboard, ready to use when an evacuation mat is necessary.
It is important that all staff have manual handling training in using the ResQmat, so they will know how to use it in an emergency. When training, it may be better to stop the training by the escape door, because if the ResQmat is dragged across a driveway, the bottom surface may be scratched beyond repair. Proposed escape routes should be trialed for evacuation in different directions depending on where the fire may start. It may be necessary to move some furniture to allow more room to move.
To Use
Take the ResQmat to the Patient. Remove the strap that is around the ResQmat and unfold the ResQmat.
When the Patient is on top of the ResQmat, place their head on the pillow with their shoulders close to the edge of the pillow. The oversize pillow is to protect the Patient’s head when going around corners.
The methods outlined below are only some suggested ways of getting the Patient onto the ResQmat. Your Manual Handling Advisor may have a better suggestion for this task.
If the Patient is in bed
Log roll the Patient to place the ResQmat under them. It is better to place the side of the ResQmat with the soft Hook and Loop Tape under the Patient. If the side with the Red Shortening Strap is tucked in first under the patient the Red Shortening Strap may catch underneath the Patient.
If the Patient is in a chair
Place the ResQmat on the floor in front of the chair with the pillow near the Patient’s feet. If they are in a wheelchair, apply the brakes, remove the foot plates or swing them out of the way. Lift the Patient’s legs to pull them, so they slide down into the ResQmat. This is easier if a second Carer can hold the Patient under the arms to help them slide, remember this is only used for an emergency evacuation. It also may be possible to stand the Patient and have the ResQmat near the chair to lay the Patient onto the ResQmat. There may not be enough Carers, so always ask your Manual Handling Advisor to learn a safe method for patients and Carers.
When the Patient is on the ResQmat
Firmly wrap the sides of the ResQmat over the Patient and secure the Hook & Loop Tape onto the opposite side. Start nearest the feet. Make sure the Red Shortening Strap is clear of the Patient’s feet.
The Patient’s feet should be inside the ‘V’ section of the Red Strap. After the four Hook & Loop Tape fastenings are firmly done up, pull the Red Strap from the foot of the sheet through the buckle near the chest, so the length of the ResQmat is made shorter as it wraps over the Patient’s feet. Use one hand to push the Red Strap into the buckle and the other hand to pull the Strap away from the buckle. Then close the clamp latch to secure the strap. Even if the webbing is not neatly in the buckle and some webbing is over the edge, the buckle should still close and lock the webbing. By shortening the length of the ResQmat it helps secure the Patient when they are taken down stairs feet first.
There is a second pulling strap located under the pillow and this can be used to help lower someone from a bed or if it is necessary, to pull from the head end of the ResQmat. This strap can be used to help the descent if going down stairs; on stair landings; turning around corners etc. In most evacuations this pulling strap will be kept out of the way, by storing it under the pillow. As there is less strain to pull from the foot end, only use the head pulling strap if necessary.
The Patient should be pulled clear of the building to a designated muster area approved by your facility.
Maintenance
We recommend an annual inspection to ensure vermin have not caused any damage.
The ResQpod can be used in office buildings, theatres, libraries, hospitals, schools, etc. Even if a wheelchair user does not work in the building, a wheelchair user may be in the building when there is a power failure or fire, and they will not be able to use the stairs to evacuate. When not in use, the ResQpod can hang from a hook or be stored in a cupboard, ready to use when an evacuation is necessary.
This item is not suitable for most spiral staircases.
To Use
Take the ResQpod to the Patient. Remove the strap that is around the ResQpod and unfold the ResQpod.
When putting the Patient on top of the ResQpod, place their head on the pillow with their shoulders close to the edge of the pillow.
The methods outlined below are only some suggested ways of getting the Patient onto the ResQpod. Your manual handling advisor may have a better suggestion for this task.
If the Patient is in bed
Log roll the Evacuee onto the ResQpod. If their head is not on the pillow, the Rescuers can slide the Evacuee up into position.
If the Patient is in a chair
Place the ResQpod on the floor in front of the chair with the pillow near the Patient’s feet. If they are in a wheelchair, apply the brakes, remove the foot plates or swing them out of the way. Lift the Patient’s legs to pull them, so they slide down into the ResQpod. This is easier if a second Carer can hold the Patient under the arms to help them slide, remember this is only used for an emergency evacuation. It also may be possible to stand the Patient and have the ResQpod near the chair to lay the Patient onto the ResQpod. There may not be enough Carers, so always ask your Manual Handling Advisor to learn a safe method for patients and Carers.
When the Patient is on the ResQpod
Place the Evacuee’s arms on their stomachs, or hands on their laps and do up the Hook & Loop firmly
.
Do up the Hook & Loop around the upper and lower legs or around the feet of shorter Evacuees.
Attach the Orange Length Adjusting Strap to the Shoulder Strap. Pull the Length Adjusting Strap to shorten the length of the ResQpod. The shorter ResQpod is more secure for the Evacuee, and is easier to manoeuvre going around corners, and on stair landings. There are two Carry Handles on each side for lifting the ResQpod up off the ground (Requires 4-6 rescuers).
The Patient should be pulled clear of the building to a designated muster area approved by your facility.
It is important that all staff have manual handling training in using the ResQpod, so they will know how to use it in an emergency. When training, it may be better to stop the training by the escape door, because if the ResQpod is dragged across a driveway, the bottom surface may be scratched beyond repair. Proposed escape routes should be trialed for evacuation in different directions depending on where the fire may start. It may be necessary to move some furniture to allow more room to move.
Maintenance
We recommend you inspect annually, to ensure vermin have not caused any damage. If this happens, the buckles can be damaged by the side rails, or when the bed is raised or lowered. Also the Pulling Straps can be tangled on a fitting at the end of the bed. It is always best to avoid the straps becoming tangled on the bed, as this could delay a fast evacuation. The test results can vary on different grades of carpet depending on the pile and underlay. With vinyl flooring, the type of vinyl and any polishes or cleaning materials used may also affect the pulling force. Therefore these results are just an indication of the reduction. The Initial Force was when the ResQsheets were on the floor. After taking the mattress off the bed, and starting to slide straight away, the initial force should be less. Trolley Beds are narrower than a standard bed so when making the bed, the standard size ResQsheet (92cm / 36″ wide), is not held correctly in position by the elastic corner straps. If a standard size ResQsheet is used under the mattress, the sides of the ResQsheet can wrap around the sides of the mattress. This slippery material can be dangerous if a patient sits on the side of the bed. They may make the mattress slide from under them, and the patient may fall to the floor.
The Trolley Bed mattress should have a non-slip material on the bottom. However, the mattresses are very lightweight and it is easy for them to move or slip. Normally standard width bed sheets are used on the Trolley Bed. When tucked under the mattress, the non-slip bottom of the mattress is prevented from directly touching the Trolley Bed Base. This can make the mattress prone to slipping. To overcome slipping when the patient is sitting on the side of the bed, Pelican suggests using the Anti Slide Mattress Pad. These Pads are made from Miracle Grip material with a foam interior to keep it flat on the Trolley Bed Base, and a vinyl heat sealed version is available.
After evacuation, the patient can be left still cocooned in the ResQsheet which may be helpful with patients who are liable to wander. The Cross Straps are sewn across the full width of the ResQsheet to provide extra security in case the strong nylon material should tear on a rough surface, i.e. driveways, roads, etc.
Special Features
Special Press Studs (Patent Applied For) are on the Pulling Straps and the Cross Straps. By doing the Press Studs up, the webbing will be kept in place to help prevent the Pulling Straps falling off the ends of the bed. There have been occasions when these straps have been tangled on attachments to the bed and have delayed a fast evacuation. The Cross Straps also have Press Studs to stop the straps falling between the bed side rail and the bed base.
Two pieces of Miracle Grip Rubber material are sewn to each side, at the top and bottom. Another emergency could be if a Patient is having a fit or seizure and they may need CPR.
The ResQslide Board is extremely strong and will bend when in use but not break. Positioning the Strap behind the chair will depend on the design and size of the chair.
After the Patient has slid down from the chair and they are in position on the evacuation device, remember to undo the Chair Strap before removing the ResQslide Board from under the Patient.
The Chair Strap has been made very long for large armchairs. When using on a small wheelchair there will be a lot of spare webbing to adjust to size. We suggest trying out different ways of fitting to different chairs, so staff will be trained before an emergency. The procedure should be recorded, possibly with photos and kept with the ResQslide Board.
Also available in the Pelican Slide Board range:
Slide Board – Aero Transfer
Slide Board –
Stubby
Slide Board – Boomerang
Slide Board – Wheelchair Cut Out
Car Emergency Slide Board Kit
The full range of ResQproduct options are listed below.
Click
here
to view the Features List for the range of Pelican evacuation devices.
ResQsheet
Stored under the Patient’s mattress on the bed and is ready to use, with the Patient then evacuated with their mattress. By having a Security ID Tag on the bag of the stored evacuation products, it will be obvious if they have been tampered with. The evacuation product used for training should be the only one with a broken tag.
If the security number is recorded in a register, then it will indicate when the Annual Inspection for the evacuation product has been carried out. It should also show who did the inspection.
